Who We Are

Who We Are

The Seattle Taiwanese Language Association (STLA) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 92-1788982) based in Washington State. What began as informal community gatherings among longtime Seattle residents wanting to speak and maintain their native tongue has grown into a vibrant, multi-generational movement. As new voices and younger generations joined, our core leadership formally established STLA in late 2022 to build an open, supportive space where native speakers, learners of all backgrounds, and friends of Taiwan can practice and celebrate the language together. Our mission is to preserve, cultivate, and revitalize Taiwanese (Tâi-gí) and foster cultural literacy throughout the Greater Seattle area. We are dedicated to sharing Taiwan’s unique linguistic and cultural identity—distinctly shaped by the island's rich history, lived experiences, and diverse multicultural heritage
